Sherbourne Priors School is a very intimate setting in an English Manor House where staff and students live, learn and play together. The 5 acres of grounds add to a fabulous extended classroom and playground especially in the summer months.
The Sherbourne Priors Education programme for children aged 7 to 13 years has been designed specifically for this age group with tuition tailored to their cognitive ability, equipping them with skills that form a foundation for their future academic and professional life. The safe and comfortable environment created by staff in OISE schools allows children to concentrate on the dynamic and stimulating tuition with no distractions.
The welcoming and friendly environment ensures that staff and students quickly become part of the Sherbourne Family. Staff and students are residential which means staff embrace many different roles; in the classroom, in the playground, in the dining room, on excursions. A daily routine is established during the week with lessons and activities.
Sherbourne Priors is an all year round school where courses run for a week at a time. However students are encouraged to come for a minimum of two weeks at a time as their English progress is very rapid once immersed in English over this time.
Students staying longer than one week have a full-day excursion on Saturdays.
Sherbourne Priors English programme consists of 22.5 hours of formal classroom tuition. Class sizes are a maximum of 8.
Students follow an OISE junior programme ranging from elementary to upper- intermediate. The lessons focus on speaking, listening, reading with some writing to re-enforce the language taught. There is also a mid-week TEFL excursion where students are able to explore ways of using English in the environment.
During the summer months students book from 1-6 weeks depending on their needs. Sherbourne promotes environmental, technological and social learning opportunities. Lessons focus on teaching skills that stretch beyond language; developing creative, moral and global thinkers.
During our peak summer months June, July and August, Sherbourne offers an English summer programme with a project that the students cover each week. Outside of the summer, Sherbourne can offer exam prep for students wanting to enter English boarding schools. For long term students, 6 plus weeks, we also offer core subjects: Maths and Science, alternating daily, as well as English.
Materials are adapted to meet the needs of our students.
Sherbourne encourages children to speak English through a fully immersive programme. Outside of formal lessons in the classroom, children follow an afternoon programme of communication and skills workshops through games and activities, designed to encourage fluency and build confidence in speaking. The social programme also offers a sports activity which is an important part to each day, especially for this young age group.
The evening programme focuses on cultural and leisure activities which offers a lot of enjoyment and further enhances their learning experience.
Examples of afternoon activities include: Treasure hunt, selfie challenge, art activities, baking; swimming, badminton, volleyball, football, dancing.
Examples of evening activities include:; Quiz night, team games, fashion show, movie night
Students are collected from the airports and dropped off on the allocated days. The cost of a Sherbourne week includes travel, tuition , accommodation and food.
Young Learners are greeted by members of the OISE courier team at London airports or the Eurostar terminal within standard hours as part of the package and escorted to their onward transportation direct to the school. During the summer, students are usually accompanied to the Welcome Lounge, a facility with food and refreshments as well as activities to keep students occupied until they are taken onward to the school.
